Bedhead Mom Series: So Much Has Been Given…

Meet the first bedhead mom of this series!

She is one of my very best friends! And to prove it, when I announced my crazy idea on facebook and my enthusiasm for photographing mothers in their bedhead, not only did she refrain from telling me how silly I was, but surprised me by knocking on my door a few minutes later and said, “I have bedhead!” It was a nice surprise, because I found out for certain that I wasn’t the only one sporting bedhead still at 10am.

Of course her bedhead was just a little too sleek for my project—she just wakes up primped—so I made her shake it up a bit… ha!

It was my first shoot and I had to get some kinks and flyways in there somewhere, right?

And then I made her be silly.

When I asked her for a quote that inspires her or keeps her motived she quickly stated this one from Hellen Keller:

“So much has been given to me, I have not time to ponder that which has been denied.”

I wanted to tear up when I thought about the meaning. What it meant to her. A mother of 1, a 9-year-old son who has autism. Who, from birth until 2, behaved and progressed physically, emotionally and mentally like a typical kid. To have known what that was like and then to one day have that taken away. To have to work to get him back to the point where his personality would shine through again. To be able to see him behave like he once did and to have him see her again like he once did. To wonder if that were even possible. And then to desire so badly to have another baby, knowing that 9 years have passed and another baby has not come.

And here she is, as bright, happy and positive as she usually is. That’s why I love her so much.

This is a glimpse of the wake up face her son sees every morning.

Wake up!

It a shame that it is usually only those closest to us that get to behold our simple waking beauty… but I guess there should be some privileges that are sacred. I’m thankful she and the rest of those who I have photographed and will photograph are willing to share this part of their life with the world!

And although these pictures are fun and show off how beautiful you all are in the morning, because you are, it is important to remember

…in the visionary words of Hellen Keller:

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”

Mothers, your bedhead and your hearts are beautiful!
