Look Closer

What do you see when looking at this beautiful make-up free face?

Look Deeper

For today’s challenge I want you to pick one picture to focus on and time yourself for 1 full minute.

At about 10 seconds I want you make mental note of what you see.

Then continue for the full minute making mental notes at 10 second intervals.

What did you see first?

What did you see towards the end?

Share your notes in the comments!

Looking Back

Why did you want to participate in #40Faces?

I wanted to participate in the project because I’d just met you and spent that wonderful mother’s blessing (Cynthia’s) with you and thought you were the coolest person in the world right then.

What were your feelings and thoughts while I was taking your pictures?

I admit to being nervous about you taking my photo sans make-up / knowing they’d go on some social media outlet .. Thus my request to see the photos before you published them .. Maybe it’s because I work with photography and know how terrible people can look even with a fab shooter. However, I thought you did a great job of capturing my spirit / personality even more than just a face.

What were your first and honest thoughts when you saw your pictures for the first time? After looking at them for a while? Now?

My thoughts on the image evolved as I viewed all the other 40Faces images; I started to notice the sincerity of each person, rather than their ‘looks’.

Before #40Faces what was your perception of beauty? What did you think of yourself? Others?

My perception of beauty is completely skewed and still is … I’m still liking the shots of faces with fabulous cheekbones / symmetrical structure / etc. (sorry), but know that I ought to look further … In real life my perception of beauty becomes completely different after the first hour with a person; it becomes based on how sweet / fabulous / fun / interesting / compelling that person is … that makes them more beautiful, regardless of cheekbones / symmetry / style / etc.

What was your favorite post in the series, other than your own, why?

Fave post: a little blonde girl. Day 4. She’s got an eager excitement look on her face. Looks like she’s going to jump up and take on the world.

  1. The first thing I noticed were her dimples! Absolutely adorable, very pronounced which made me feel the child in her. Then by the end of the minute I focused on the lines around her eyes, most women feel self-conscious of these as they indicate age, but I found them beautiful, they give her a serene look which balances out the fun dimples on her cheeks.

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Isn’t the process interesting? So many times we look away or so casually at others that we miss some beautiful details in their face. Denhi, thank you always for your comments. You are amazing!

  2. Will I be cliche’ if I, too, noticed the dimples? I love the glasses she chose as well. They are a perfect shape for her face. I was looking at the b&w photo and had to go back to a colored photo to see what color her eyes were. Blue, just like I thought they would be from the shades in the b&w photo. I also really like her hair. A good length for her and it’s got cute curls.

  3. I not only noticed her dimples, but a cheerful and welcoming smile. I thought her hair framed her faced with carefree look, expecially in the profile.
