Looking Back

Why did you want to participate in #40Faces?

I inntially wanted to participate in #40Faces to help you out. Mostly that was my reason, but I also knew that it would take me out of my comfort zone in a healthy way.

What were your feelings and thoughts while I was taking your pictures?

I was completely uncomfortable when you were taking my pictures. I was just HOPING that you could work some magic and somehow make them look ok. However, I enjoyed my time with you a lot.

What were your first and honest thoughts when you saw your pictures for the first time? After looking at them for a while? Now?

The first time I saw my pictures I thought and said, “That’s me.” Nothing emotional, just straight forward. Then, as you showed me more I found myself surprised that I didn’t hate them as much as I thought I would. When we got to your favorite picture and you told me why it was your favorite I teared up and hugged you. You have such a beautiful perspective. Now I look at my pictures and humbly realize, “This is how Heavenly Father made me.”

Before #40Faces what was your perception of beauty? What did you think of yourself? Others?

Before #40Faces I was a harsh judge of beauty. I didn’t think I was beautiful, unless really well done up, and I judged others just as harshly. If I thought someone was prettier than me, it pained me. Now, if I catch myself thinking a harsh thought about myself or another person, I stop myself, change my perspective and find beauty in the unique aspects of everyone’s face.

What was your favorite post in the series, other than your own, why?

My favorite posts were those of people I know because I already find them beautiful and love that other people get to see that. There were so many that I liked, though. I’m not sure there was one that I didn’t like.

Any other thoughts?

Since I participated in #40Faces, I have been ok with going out of my house without makeup. I still prefer my face made up, but I don’t put applying makeup ahead of taking care of my children so if it doesn’t get done I’m ok with it. I still like to put my best foot forward and present myself well, but I am a mom and that means that I often don’t have time to look my best. That’s ok.
